Crematorium Reception Replacement - Capital scheme C32 (ODD/143/2021)

Decision Maker: Executive Director Place

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Decision:

To agree to allocate £130,000 of capital monies to replace the existing conservatory at the crematorium which serves as the reception area to offer a better experience for customers, provide privacy for sensitive conversations, increase sales and link into the new memorial sales reseption.

Reasons for the decision:

The current conservatory has been in place for the last 18 years and is beyond its operational lifespan. The building is dated and is requiring increased repairs and maintenance and is not a good first impression of the service. In addition the layout does not provide privacy to visitors who wish to have sensitive conversations with members of staff.

The ongoing COVID pandemic has highlighted the need for more space as the administrative functions of Bereavement Services, the Stonemasons business and the Pet Crematorium all operate from this one site.

Recently a new showroon has been built onto the front of the building (through the commercial fund) and it is proposed to mirror this although on a slightly larger scale.

This project has been considered by the Capital Oversight Board and approved

Alternative options considered:

The building is not large enough to contain a new reception within its current layout and therefore there is no alternative other than to replace the existing structure.
