Psychosocial Engagement Team (PET) (ODD/129/201)

Decision Maker: Executive Director Public Health and Communities

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Decision:

This decision relates to the creation of a Psychosocial Engagement Team Pilot, jointly funded by BMBC and NHS England.  The service has been designed to provide a timely, problem solving, evidence based psychosocial intervention to individuals who have made a suicide attempt or those with suicidal plans/intent.  The pilot service will offer an opportunity to intervene early with a holistic approach to their recovery and one which involves family and peers.

BMBC’s contribution of £45,000 is providing 6 months service until 31 July 2021.

Reasons for the decision:

Suspected suicide rates in Barnsley have increased over the last 3 years according to our Real Time Suspected Suicide Data.  The Public Health team conducted an analysis to investigate this in more detail.  The service will support those individuals in their recovery and their family in a timely manner.

Alternative options considered:

Other alternatives were considered but due to the urgency of the work and the one off funding, it was deemed appropriate to design this service in order to support individuals in their recovery.
