Contract for Minor Adaptations for Older People in Barnsley (ODD/077/2021)

Decision Maker: Executive Director Adults and Communities

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Decision:

To extend the current contract with Yorkshire Housing to enable the Stayput Minor Adaptations Service to continue.

Reasons for the decision:

Yorkshire Housing currently provide minor adaptations, mainly grab rails, for older people in Barnsley to enable a hospital discharge home but also to enable older people to remain in the community in their own home safely.

A service review commenced in 2020 but had to be put on hold due to Covid-19.

This service review will be concluded in 2021/22 but whilst this is being undertaken, the current service needs to continue.

Consultation has taken place with Yorkshire Housing, Strategic Procurement and Head of Service, Adult Joint Commissioning in relation to extending this contract.

Alternative options considered:

Alternatives could be provided on an emergency basis.  The project will also be considering the options available for the future delivery of this service.  Qualified Technicians are required to fit minor adaptations so the contract with Yorkshire Housing needs to continue to ensure there is no gap in service provision for older people who are assessed as requiring this service.
