The decision is taken to procure 1400 Dell Chromebooks to be provided to children across the Borough via schools where children do not have access to devices to enable them to have access to schools during Covid-19.

HM Lord-Lieutenant of South Yorkshire informed the South Yorkshire Council Chief Executives and Directors of Children’s Services of an initiative, Laptops for Kids, with Wandisco and Dell to provide 10,000 discounted chromebooks across the Sheffield City Region at a discounted rate. 

Engagement direct with schools has identified that 1400 children are without devices to enable them to continue communications and carry out work with schools during Covid-19.

Schools and Multi Academy Trusts will be asked to financially contribute to the distribution of laptops for pupils in their schools.

However, procurement by the Council is required to secure the time limited, discounted offer to ensure that children with no IT and digital access can continue their schoolwork and curriculum catchup and have communications with their teachers or other pupils during Covid-19.
