Approval to commence the procurement process for a 24-month contract with 2 x 12-month optional extensions to appoint a contractor for the operational delivery of the outdoor markets.
The cost of each year is approximately £260000 although this may fluctuate due to operational changes in requirements during the contract period.
The contract will initially run from 01/10/2022 to 30/09/2024 with a final optional end date of 30/09/2026.
This decision was taken as the capacity to deliver this service is not available from internal resources due to the specific delivery requirements of the works.
The aspiration for outdoor markets across the borough is to have demountable provision which provides an improved market experience for stallholders and shoppers and contributes to the urban centre’s improvements being delivered through the Principal Towns programme.
The alternative would be fixed market stalls in all outdoor locations which is not the preferred model of delivering street markets across the borough.
