Infinis Borehole Logging Exercise (ODD/096/2021)

Decision Maker: Executive Director Place

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Decision:

Appoint Robertson Geologging Ltd to carry out borehole logging at the 4 sites within the borough as per the agreed scope of works at a cost of £3615.00 plus VAT.

Reasons for the decision:

The Sustainability and Climate Change team are exploring the feasibility of a district heating network powered by minewater in the Carlton area. The flooded Abandoned Mine Methane boreholes at Monkton, Ardagh Glassworks, Grimethorpe and Houghton will be tested to give the current water levels, temperatures and flow rates beneath the Carlton site. This information will de-risk a heat network project in the area making it more likely for a developer to integrate into the plan for the Carlton development.

Alternative options considered:

Robertson Geologging Ltd have taken readings from these boreholes previously and are one of two companies with the specialist equipment and contractors. Drilcorp were asked to provide a quote but were unable to do so with regards to the timescales of the feasibility study.

In accordance with BMBC Standing Orders, as the fees are below £10,000, a single quotation is acceptable on the grounds of cost effectiveness and expedience.
