Health and Wellbeing Centres for Older People in Barnsley (ODD/059/2021)

Decision Maker: Executive Director Adults and Communities

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Decision:

To extend the current contracts with 3 local service providers to enable the Health and Wellbeing Centres to continue to provide support to older people.

Reasons for the decision:

To ensure there are no gaps in service provision whilst the development work around the future model of day centres for older people is undertaken.  Work had commenced in 2020 but had to be put on hold due to Covid.

Consultation has taken place with the Head of Service Adult Joint Commissioning and the strategic lead for procurement, to request a waiver of contract procurement rules to enable the existing service contracts to continue for a further year.

Alternative options considered:

Whilst the numbers attending older people day centres is declining, there remains a requirement to provide this service.  Whilst alternatives could be provided on an  emergency basis, longer term there is no alternative day care provision locally for older people that could be utilised.
